Thomas R. Mathews papers, 1858-1926.

Two scrapbooks, correspondence, and other papers of Brigadier General Thomas R. Mathews, 1st Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Mathews was a veteran of the Civil War and post commander of the Edward W. Kinsley Post #113, Grand Army of the Republic, from 1881-1882. The scrapbooks, 1881-1886 and 1886-1902, contain printed matter, primarily newspaper clippings, related to E. W. Kinsley Post #113; the dedication of the 1st Mass. Infantry's monument on the battlefield at Gettysburg in 1886; the Brimmer School (Boston, Mass.), for which Mathews served on the governing board; and local politics. Also included in the collection are letters, Mathews's marriage certificate, a sketch of the family crest, and other papers.
